I like that phrase; endless possibilities. But I’m very careful when I use it. Geo-referenced social media data I believe warrants its usage. What exactly is geo-referenced social media data?
Endless Possibilities = Social Media Data Mapped with ArcGIS
Put simply geo-referenced social media data is a tweet (for example) which has a lat/long attached to where the tweet was generated. So I’m in the middle of a hail storm. Huge 3″ hail stones are falling. Worth a tweet me thinks. Maybe I’ll also attach a picture. Generate the tweet, hit submit and bingo (as long as enabled) my tweet has location data attached. This is real time data about a current event. Below we show hail data provided by DataCapable. One view from your office or home:

So who might find this data and application useful?
- News and Media Organizations
- Insurance Companies
- Asset Owners
- Emergency Responders
- Weather Data Providers
The combination of realtime social media data mapped and analysed in ArcGIS has many very powerful possibilities.
