Real-Time Snowplough Tracking for Cities
Problem: “We would like to track snowploughs in real-time. Both for live route planning, and to keep a historical record.”
Prototype: MVP developed using low cost hardware (Raspberry Pi), open source event driven platform (Node-Red) and Esri’s Operations Dashboard. See application.
Final Deliverable: Built out solution for snowplough fleet, and other public vehicles.
Collision Diagnostics for Safety Engineers
Problem: “We need a better way to diagnose the cause of collisions, in our State-wide effort to reduce the number of collisions resulting in serious injuries.”
Prototype: We took a 3 phased approach leveraging geospatial data. First we mapped 2D collision data for pattern recognition (where are the most problematic intersections?). Second, we created a 3D digital twin using LiDAR to allow engineers to explore problematic intersections (providing a sense of place). Third, we added sensor data providing additional diagnostic insight. See video.
Final Deliverable: We extended the prototype to include real-time data and moved to production.
Flood Prediction & Asset Protection for Utility
Problem: “When severe storms hit causing flooding, today we are reactive. We would like to be able to predict which of our assets will be most seriously impacted as a storm approaches, so we can take measure proactively to protect saveable assets.”
Prototype: We aggregated real-time storm predictive data (surge, inundation, rainfall, elevation etc) and using asset point data applied logic to predict the most impacted assets. This ran in real-time as the storms approached. Assets were symbolised (red, orange or green) based on level of impact.
Final Deliverable: Built out a series of dashboards, designed for specific user groups, using the predictive layer as a core component for visualization and decision-making.
Next Phase: Add AI capabilities.
