Its hard to imagine a bigger generation gap than we have today. Heads of companies are the “pen and paper, spreadsheet generation”. The young are fully digital, with all its benefits. Future success for all companies is about embracing digital technology, that means giving the young a voice at the decision making table.
I thought Tom Davenport’s article Why Boards of Directors Need a Digital Leader was spot on, particularly the line: “part of digital transformation is cultural change, and a board member with a ponytail and an attitude isn’t necessarily a bad thing.”
Next time you are at an Esri conference take a look at the 20 somethings and their new ideas. Review a List of the top 100 geospatial start-ups and companies in the world. (Some) of these guys represent the future. (Some) of these guys might have new solutions which your clients might like better!
